Educational & Family Support 12-Week Program

Workshops for Individuals & Caregivers

We will be developing 10 once-a-week sessions of bilaterally run workshops for both individuals with severe mental illness and their families or caregivers.

Our goal is to simultaneously through weekly sessions :

  • Offer group support to the emotionally stressed family, partner or caregiver in learning how to cope with their loved one’s illness, manage their lives to obtain a sense of normalcy, recognize how and when to intervene in a crisis and the mental illness warning signs.
  • Offer group support to individuals living with the diagnosis of severe mental illness and provide insight on day-to-day life skills, improving socialization, gaining and supporting trust among family and friends, learning well-being exercises and how to enjoy a normal life.

Individuals invited to participate will be those diagnosed with severe mental illness (i.e. schizophrenia or related psychotic disorders) that are on a monitored treatment plan (medication and/or therapy).  First group priority given to individuals between 18-35 years old. These individuals are either cared for in a family home or in supported housing.

Participation necessary with a family member or partner / caregiver.

Dates and locations to be determined for 2021 and by facility availabilty as well as response to the COVID19 crisis limitations.
